Q: How do I water my Glowpear Urban Garden?

A: The Glowpear Urban Garden is designed with the flexibility to compliment your lifestyle.

Accordingly, there are four options for watering your Glowpear Urban Garden.

1. Via rainwater if exposed to the elements.

2. Manually water the soil in the growing chamber using a garden hose or watering can.

3. Manually fill the water reservoir via the fill point when the level indicator is low.

4. Clip in your garden hose using the Glowpear Automatic Watering Kit (coming soon).

Whichever option you choose, the Glowpear self watering system ensures excess water is collected and released over time so your plants receive constant attention and nourishment.

Q: Will my Glowpear Urban Garden leak onto my balcony?

A: Your Glowpear Urban Garden contains a built-in water reservoir, which can hold a maximum water volume of 13.25L (in addition to any excess capacity in the growing chamber). In the event this reservoir is overfilled, water will exit the system via the designated overflow point.

If you are concerned with overflow, don’t worry, we have you covered. All you need to do is clip on a Glowpear drip tray at the overflow point on each side. Two Glowpear drip trays are included with each Glowpear Urban Garden ensuring indoor or outdoor surface protection is never a concern.

Q: How do I assemble my Glowpear Urban Garden?

A: Assembly instructions are provided inside the box when you purchase your Glowpear Urban Garden, but if you happen to misplace them, feel free to download a copy here

Style guru, fashionista and CEO of Slinkii Athletic, Pia Muehlenbeck, has been kind enough to share a video she took when putting together her own Glowpear Urban Garden to step you through the process.

Q: How do I care for my Glowpear Urban Garden?

A: The Glowpear Urban Garden is made of HDPE plastic resin that has been UV protected so that it survives outdoor environments. You can clean the plastic surfaces of the Glowpear Urban Garden by hand with soap and warm water. For certain hard to lift stains additional cleaning power in the form of a 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water solution may be required. This solution should not affect product color.

During times of cooler weather or when used indoors, the planter may use less water for long periods of time. In such circumstances you may like to flush the water reservoir to prevent the encapsulated water from becoming stagnant. Once every 3-6 months should be sufficient.

In order to flush the reservoir, simply remove one screw plug from each end of the planter (outside) and allow the contents of the reservoir to drain. Once draining is complete, use a hose at one end to flush out the reservoir for a minute or two, allowing the water to run freely from the opposite end. Once the reservoir has again been allowed to drain, re-apply the screw plugs (ensuring they are fitted tightly), and the planter is ready to be re-filled as per your normal watering method.

Q: Why use fertilizer in soil?

A: Fertilizers are organic or inorganic substances added to soil to increase its fertility. Most good soil mixes will already have a balanced level of organic fertilizer (powder, pellets, and/or liquid). However, this initial dose will generally only last a matter of weeks or months, so for best planting results we’d encourage you to add organic fertilizers to your soil on an ongoing basis.

Q: Why use trace elements in soil?

A: Trace elements are chemical elements required in minute quantities by plants in order to maintain proper physical functioning, and as such an essential part of a good soil mix. Common elements that may be found in a quality potting mix include Iron, Copper, Manganese, Zinc, Molybdenum, and Boron.

Q: Why use perlite in soil?

A: Perlite is a naturally occurring volcanic rock, and can be identified as the light and fluffy popcorn-resembling granules found in many soil mixes. They can hold four times their weight in water so are perfect for ensuring optimal operation of the Glowpear self watering system.

Q: Why use bark fines in soil?

A: Various tree barks are often ground and added to potting mixes. Pine bark is the ideal variety because it creates air spaces, enabling moisture and nutrients to be retained within a soil mix.
